What is the Halo/Horn Effect?
This term refers to one of the factors contributing to rater bias during the evaluation process. It describes the evaluator’s tendency to favor or disfavor the candidate or employee during the evaluation process as a result of the candidate’s superiority—or lack thereof—in a particular aspect of their skills, professionalism, or even physical appearance, in a way that causes the evaluator to overlook the candidate’s or employee’s other characteristics.
